Total is an American R&B girl group and one of the signature acts of the Bad Boy Records imprint during the mid-1990s.[1] The group consists of founding members Kima Raynor, Keisha Spivey, and Pamela Long.[1] Total is best known for their feature on Mase's "What You Want", as well as their hits "Kissin' You", "Can't You See" (featuring The Notorious B.I.G.), and "What About Us?" and "Trippin'", both featuring Missy Elliott. Long also sung the chorus of The Notorious B.I.G.'s hit song "Hypnotize", although she was not officially credited.[1] Total made their first appearance singing the hook on The Notorious B.I.G.'s debut single for Bad Boy Records, "Juicy", widely considered one of the greatest hip-hop songs of all time.[1][2][3][4]

In 2019, Pamela Long announced that she is working on her debut solo album. She released a video for her single "Why".[5]

Career
The trio made their first appearance singing the hook on The Notorious B.I.G.'s debut single, "Juicy".[1] Garnering attention for the new group, they were also featured on the original version and "Hip Hop Remix" of his next single "One More Chance". They then immediately hit the studio with Bad Boy Records CEO Sean Combs and began work on their debut album. The first single "Can't You See?" first appeared on the soundtrack to 1995 motion picture, New Jersey Drive. The song featured The Notorious B.I.G. and peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as number 2 on the R&B Chart.[1] Their self-titled debut album was released nearly a year after the single. Total produced two more R&B top ten singles including: "No One Else" (and its remix featuring Lil' Kim, Foxy Brown, and Da Brat) and '"Kissin' You" (and its remix featuring Sean Combs).[1] The album was certified platinum by the RIAA.

While recording their second album, they appeared on numerous top ten singles, including LL Cool J's "Loungin (Who Do Ya Luv)", Foxy Brown's "I Can't", and Mase's "What You Want" featuring Keisha Epps, and Pamela Long sung the chorus on the hit "Hypnotize" by The Notorious B.I.G. The group also released another single, the Missy Elliott and Timbaland track "What About Us?" from the Soul Food soundtrack.

Their follow-up album, Kima, Keisha, and Pam,[1] debuted to strong reviews, sales, and was certified gold by the RIAA. The first single, another Missy Elliott collaboration, "Trippin'", reached the top ten of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.[1] Their next release, "Sitting Home", which made Top 10 of the Billboard R&B Singles did not garner the same attention. While in heavy rotation on video networks like BET, radio chose not to play the song. A remix of the track featured rap artist Shyne.

And what he explained to me, he's I'm from Jersey City, he's from Passake, New Jersey. Then he moved out to Seaside Heights, New Jersey. For all you people that know don't know New Jersey, um, I'm gonna walk, I'm gonna help you out tonight. So I met him when I was in Jersey City, so and he was doing a lot of events in Jersey, period, and he was managing a lot of female artists because back in them days, RB was the shit. He's a record exec, and he's a producer and he's a manager. And um, I met him when I was working with Double Exposure, and he uh he paid the company to do marketing for a couple of another artists, not total, another artist that um he was dealing with, another female artist. So I met him. He was a good dude. He was he definitely was older than you know, he was a manager slash record. And uh he was producing, and everything this guy touched, it it went there. It like went either the person got a record deal or they got an admin deal or they got a publishing deal. Y'all might want to hang out this story, untold stories of Toto. So he met Pam first. Pam, uh, according to him, was uh I'm here. I I never met Toto. Okay. I lived in Jersey, Toto lived in Jersey, Toto lived all over the world. When they when he got with him, Pam was actually staying with the dude. And um he did artist development. You know, artist development paying for studio time, paying for producers, doing I'm gonna say back in them days, and back in the early, he met Pam in 1990. Back in them days, they was young, all the girls was young, but legal, but you had to do a lot of artist development to get a person where they need to be at. It took years to get you there. That's why when somebody gets signed their album back in them days, they did two, three years of artist development and marketing promotion, so the shit ain't just come out. Now, now shit just come out like, all right, I went to this, I went to my house studio, it's coming out tomorrow. Like, nigga, what? Shit is different. Back in the 90s, it you know, you even when I was signed with Columbia Records, uh, I signed my deal with Columbia Records, and it was a DJ slash recording deal, and I signed in um '93. My shit didn't come out to 97. Like, goddamn. It was independent label Neon Records, distributed by Columbia Records. Uh, they, you know, it took me three months to get the advance, and back then it was only $20,000. Like, I thought I was rich. Nigga, I made it. Well, I feel better because I heard some of the niggas back then only got $10,000 for advance, and then the $20,000 I had. I'm gonna tell you what I did with the $20,000. I gave my RP to my manager, Jeff. I gave him 25% of that because he was with me when I got the deal. And I love Jeff JS, man. I love that nigga. Rest in rest in peace, brother. I gave him 25% of that shit. And uh at the time, I was already down south, I already commuted down south. I signed my deal. Well, I was working with the production company, Nier Records, and then we didn't get the deal until we we I signed it, but I didn't get the he didn't get the distribution with Columbia until I say 96. And that's what he he he gave me my advance, and you couldn't tell me shit. You couldn't tell me nothing when I got the event, the the $20,000 checks from Columbia Records. You can tell, you can tell me shit. I was like, like some of these artists now, you can't tell them, and they didn't get shit. They ain't got nothing. But one thing about me, I my manager was there, and I'm gonna be honest, I'm gonna tell you how loyal I am to people that I fucking say I really give a fuck about. I found the producer. I was working in Club Zanzibar in Nork, New Jersey, and I found that that that that that that person from Neon Records and actually, you know, shout out to Akon. I turned him on to the same people, and from Akon working with him, they turned him on to the Fuji's, and Akon, if you look up some old, old Acorn shit. Now I went to school, Akon, that's a long. We're gonna do untold stories in Acorn. I have personal relationship with Acorn, but back in the early days of Akon, um, I turned Akon on to the guy from Neon Records, and then he turned Acorn on to the Fuji's. And if you go listen to some of the early Fuji shit, Akon is on the Fuji's album way before Acorn went to jail. This does, this is like 9091, some shit like that. But make a long story short, I want to get lost in this and start talking about Acorn. We're gonna do that later. Um I found the I found the record I found the record company. My manager didn't, but I still, beating he was my manager, he made sure all the admin work was done, the copyrights was done, all the publishers. He still made sure, even though I found I I found it, he didn't find it, I still gave him 25% of the $20,000. That's loyalty. And um and and I honored our co our signed contract, or whatever. I honored the contract me and Jazz had, and we we we've been rocking all the way up to the time he died. So, and that we've been me and Jazz have been rocking for 30 years, and RIP to him, he died last year. My manager died, passed away. He was my manager the whole time. So um from the 90s to 2020, uh, he died in 2025. So from 90 to 2025, that was my manager. So and he went to all my events. He went all my last event I did, the white party, JS was there doing security. So when I'm trying to say, it was loyalty. My friend, he told me not to say his name because they they fighting in court and shit like that. But though if you know, you know. I hate to say that word, but if you know, you know. So my good friend was managing Pam, and then Pam turned him on to the other. Well, actually, another had auditioned and they met the other groups from Total. And he gave him their name. He started writing the music, producing the music, paying for the studio time, going to New York, doing this and doing the fashion shows, the talent shows, and writing the music, paying for writers, and he got total into quad studios. They did their first, it was none of none of the shit that Puffy did. He had the demo dressed up so good that EBK, well, back then it was a demo. It was we're gonna call it EBK because it's 2026. But he got the demo together, EBK, whatever you want to call it, and he was shopping it. Unfortunately, one of the members from Total, and I'm gonna say it it is, her name was Pam, and y'all know who Pam is. Pam was invited to one of the Puffy parties in New York, and um she went there, and he he she pretty much gave the dAp tape, it was a dap tape to one of Puffy's assistants, that bad boy, and Puffy pretty much called them privately. He liked Pample called the Pam, because I'm I'm gonna give Pam. I respect Total. I never met him, but I'm going. My homie was managing him first. He discovered Total, my man from New Jersey. Pam was the first person he met from Total, and he gave her the um the one of the copies of the whole album he's working on. That got to that got to Puffy people. Puffy, and you know, back in them days, you got your phone number on it. Pam had her contact information on their contact Pam. All of a sudden, a month later, Puffy um brings them to the studio, this we talk about 1994, and signed them. They told him, they told that, you know, the story I got, and this this that Pam wrote it in her book, but Pam also said she was lying in her book that she wrote about Puppy, and she she she had information in it, which I don't believe Pam lied in her book. I don't think Pam lied in the book, so we're gonna stop that. Uh, you know, she says she, you know, she's spiritual now, what she is, and and and all love to Pam. Like I said, I don't know her, but I know your story, and I know my partner that discovered you. I'm talking to Pam right now because I you know we got her information, you know, they they probably watch it now or whatever. I don't care. My thing is loyalty is everything. If you don't have loyalty, how the hell are you, you know? Unfortunately, Toto was not loyal to my homie that was their manager before they got with Puffy. I know, you know, I guess Puppy had more money, whatever the situation is, but they only signed actually that Puffy signed Total to the recording contract, but guess how much money Total got? Guess how many they Total had got, they signed to a development deal. So even though you signed a recording contract, it was more marketing development, so they didn't get shit. How you and this is untold. So my investigation and my journalists and talking to my friend that was their manager, they didn't get enough to they pretty much wanted the spotlight. Some people don't want money, they would they just want the spotlight. Some people don't want money. Unfortunately, um the dude tried to go after Puffy, tried to sue him, but his money was not longer than Puffy. And um uh after after he dropped the lawsuit on Puffy in '94, Puffy went and dropped Can't You C. That's when that song came out. 95, excuse me. So once Puffy, he couldn't battle my my homie, their ex-manager, Total's ex-manager, for people that just joining. My homeboy that managed Total and discovered Total, pay for their studio time, pay for their hair, their nails, their clothes, they look. He the one that gave them the glasses. He the one that did the artist development, like, you want to look like this. You this is your look. He he pretty much patched made up the package. He threw it out there for marketing. He trusted Pam. Unfortunately, he trusted all of them. You know, you can't trust no fucking artist in his industry. You can't trust no fucking DJ. You can't trust no singer, no rapper. It's all business, baby. And what's so sad about this situation? I'm gonna ask you, I'm gonna tell y'all something. There was under contract with my homie. There was under a publishing, not a publishing, a production and a management contract with my homie. Not that was, you know, not recording. So that deal could have still gone, but Puffy did not want him involved with Total. He was told to CX1 DG Callation LLC that Bad Boy, some people in Bad Boy was threatening him. My homie, the the ex-manager, the finder. I'm gonna continue to say that because he did. He he he discovered them, he managed them. Puppy, I can't say stole. Total pretty much a breach the contract. So when we say somebody, this is why I can't pit it on Puff Daddy. I gotta put it on Pam and then other members of Total. And I'm gonna give them flowers. Like some when I do some untold stories, I'm giving flowers, but I'm also giving education to other up-coming artists and other DJs, up and managers, up and for up and up and coming producers and investors to understand that even though you have a contract, that don't mean shit when another person got more money than you. Guess what? That shit is just a piece of paper. So what you got a contract? That's a piece of fucking paper. Anybody gonna kind of abide by it. They gonna they gotta not not listen to you. So it's it goes by loyalty. It goes by it's you gonna stick to your agreement. Like some of the DJs I know with CX1, they don't want to do shit but get paid. You know, so we pitch you in a building with some heavy hitters, you might turn into a fanboy. Fuck that nigga. It's the same shit with Toto. They got with Puffy, they looked at the small time manager with his but his pockets ain't long as Puppy. And then you gotta understand, people might say, yo, man, I I want a life, but God don't like ugly. The grass was not green. Listen, Toto, when listen, I'm gonna tell y'all something, man. And this is gonna be real, because I'm not gonna sugarcoat shit tonight. That's why I do my shit on. I pray before I did this, because I I know a lot of people in this industry. We don't ain't no cap in my rap. And there's a lot of stories I don't share to people because you know, ain't have a platform to do that. So now we have this platform. It's a lot of that's why I started and trademarked on CX1 DJ's Untold Stories, original series, because I have a lot of industry stories that I know you niggas don't know. That's real, genuine fucking stories. So, and if I if it was my story, it's my one of my friends, because I got a whole bunch of friends as an industry, especially in New Jersey, in New York. So, like this, I I got some regulars ex that just got fired. They gave me a bunch of stories. Like, goddamn. I got some people that worked at Def Jam, Inesco, Universal, So So Deaf, um uh oh shit, um Violator Epic Records, they got fired, and they got real shit. They gonna give DJ Butterrock. Um God, God is good, ain't he? God is good. You you can't ask no more. You can't ask no more for that. So my homie got pretty much got, you know, when you're dealing with Puff Daddy in the 90s, you are not gonna go against P. Diddy, Puffy, Sean Diddy Combs. That was like a uh uh like command suicide. Nigga, you want and I'm not saying that Puffy was like ruthless. You guys can look that shit up. I I love Puff Daddy. I I played all his music, I met Puffy a bunch of times. He was always good to me. I'm not here to bass with Puffy, I'm here to talk about loyalty and unloyed people. You can't blame Puffy for being puffy and getting, he heard the talent that was already polished. He didn't have to do shit, but put the music out. He heard talent that was already ready to go. There, these people already had a demo. Well, Puffy did, he took the songs that he took he took the demo that my man had, almost slipped up and said his name. He said, Butter, please don't say, I won't, I ain't gonna do that old. You know, you know. And he like, um, only thing Puppy did, because Puppy is a producer, he knows how to remix it, he remixed all that shit. The can't you see was the one of the songs he wrote that Puppy splipped it, had someone else write some. He tweeted it, so you can't sue him once the shit get tweeted. Anybody could tweet somebody's shit. Puppy was the mastermind of taking your shit and tweeting it. He did it with the um Big Papa song with the the big boy from um from um from Mississippi that Biggie stole his style and name and everything. Puppy did that shit. The big papa nigga, that the one from Mississippi that they stole his style, his flow, the juicy beat. He had the juicy beat before Biggie. So Puppy had the resume and uh the reputation of yo, if you ain't fucking with bad boy, we're gonna take your shit and what you gonna do? What you gonna do when puppy wanna we? But so that's why you gotta have loyalty. That's why I'm glad I got a punk of foot. I'm glad I got certain people around me that's loyal. Because if you don't have loyalty, anybody can come around with millions of dollars. The old way of finding artists now is really in loyalty, man. The old way of finding DJs and anybody you want to invest your money in, you have to understand that person have put gotta have loyalty. You I tell everybody, I don't trust shit because the the what's well you could sign my contract, we can get it notarized, we can get a goddamn all kind of legal shit, the India, all the shit that comes with it. If you meet someone else in better position than the person you with, you have the finances to battle that contract, you have the finances to say fuck that entity and still do your own dang legally, but understand the morals of it and the karma of it and what goes around, comes around, will come around. So let's talk about I'm not gonna get into all total accolades tonight. You know why? Because that belongs to my man. I can't get into accolades that somebody else made, and I'm gonna give it, I'm gonna shout out to the former manager, and I'm I'm gonna say Toto made good music. But once they was introduced to drugs and the the rock star life, the voices changed. They went from silent real clear, and then you start watching their performances after they got introduced to certain shit, drugs and all kinds of other shit they got introduced to, with this public record. I don't say allegedly, because this shit is true. Wendy Williams put them on a on. Back in the day, she likes yo, total bitches in here drunk. They high, they they on coke. Everybody know that. We don't need we don't need no we don't even need no uh elephants for this story. Uh hey, skeleton, don't play no other. This is straight in. We don't need no elephants. Untold story of total. Loyalty is everything. And once you fucking cross somebody, you can't go back to that. You can't, no one's gonna trust you in the industry. And then for one minute, you think that Puff Daddy, after they crossed a manager, the one that put money into them artists artist development, you think Puffy trusted them? He didn't fucking trust them. It's another day at the office. Once you show you gonna shit on him, you're gonna think you're gonna shit on me. And Puffy treated them no different than he treated everybody else that was signed a bad boy. It was not back in them days, it was hush hush. So whatever happened to you, and the Pam went back and told my homie, the ex-manager, everything that they had to adore with Puff Daddy and with Bad Boy Records and the politics in the industry. And it's a very sad story. Pam went out and wrote a book, and she said a lot of shit that was true in the book, and then she went back and took it back when her life was threatening. Untold stories of Toto. So when you out and none of everybody, the other girls from Toto told her, hey Pam, don't write that book. Then you had Toto, then you had Toto that broke, they broke up because Pam was running the show. Pam was the lead singer of Toto, the Dawson channel. She was she was the main one. You had the light skin one, but Pam knew the people, she knew, she knew the context. She had the relationship with P. Diddy, Pup Daddy, Sean Combs, and whatever goes, Pam made sure that went. And in 2026, Pam turned her life to God, which she should. And she she apologized to a lot of people about lying in her book. But when I read the book, because I read the book yesterday, I said, I don't think Pam lying because most of the shit was on the Diddy track. But when you gotta live in the United States and you don't have $20 million to leave the country, you better change what you got in your fucking book. But a hoover. See, my guy that worked, my best friend from New Jersey that discovered Toto and was managing him before they they crossed him and went to Bad Boy Records, he knows a lot of people in the industry. So when you go and that fallout, you can't really go work with nobody. Puppy ain't gonna was not gonna have that. And most of the people that that guy knew knew that they went ahead and shitted on him and went to Bad Boy Records. I went back and researched before I did this show. Nobody on Bad Boy Records besides Mace is doing good. Eva 112 is struggling. I'm like, how the hell 112 struggling? 112. We're talking about I'm gonna tell you how. Because when you have a big group, everybody don't get along, everybody ain't gonna be vibing to the shit. But back to total, because we don't want to get up with that. They put out can't you see? Puffy made sure they did all the fancy videos. He made sure they had the fancy cars, all the expensive videos, and then that that all the y'all heard about the record company shit. I don't gotta get into all that. That's expenses that you gotta pay back. How are you gonna pay back some shit that you didn't even approve? You don't even know nothing about nothing. You don't know how the recruitment things work. Total didn't know nothing about that. My man said they ain't know nothing about the music industry. All Puffy did, according to him, and according to Pam and all the other members that was talking at the time and was talking to him, the information provided to me, so it's no allegedly. All I know, when they went to shop the demo, he gave Pam, the member, the the the lead singer from Total, the copy of the Dap Tape. It had all about seven songs on it. It got to Bad Boy. Puppy immediately fell in love. He fell in love with a look, because you know, back in them days, you you have your press kit, you had your demo with your music on it, you have your your headshots, you had your photos, and you have your biography. This guy gave, I like, he gave them that to like just to have, like, hey man, this is what I paid for, you know, this is what I got going on. And um it got into puppy hands. Which which it's in the in the normal professional world, it's nothing wrong with meeting contacts. I did that when I had my manager. But when you don't contact your managers, hey, I got puppy, he like what he liked what we got, I want you to handle it. It didn't go down like that. Pretty much it was told to me, and I believe my boy. Because he got the court documents of the lawsuit he filed back in the 90s, and he refiled the lawsuit now to get all the royalties that was and money that was made off of total um back. The the the pretty much I don't know how that's gonna how that's gonna work and how that's gonna pan out. But all I gotta say is you gotta trust the people you are with, but if he still got a lot of money in jail or not, he still got a bunch of damn money, and you still fighting, you're fighting uh a losing battle. So I don't think he's gonna follow that up, but he he he's writing a book himself on the the industry, all the artists he managed. And besides the total, God blessed them with other mega mega stars and that he produced and that's doing good right now. One of the mega stars that he had a hand in uh getting his day record there was Trey Songs, Chris Brown. Where my drop of Chris Brown. He did produce it on SWV albums. My guy out here working. So the thing with Total, this guy was already working with SWV and everybody else before he met, he got into the total. So he did, you know, my man was not no slouch. So make a long story short, loyalty is everything. If you get anything from this story, you gotta be loyal. If you don't be loyal to nothing, be loyal to yourself. Because guess what? When you think the grass is green over there, it is not. So Total went up with the bad boy. They pretty much all the girls was young, all the members was young. If y'all go back, look at look this shit up. They was not on drugs. The shades was the signature look for my man. But they start had to wear the shades because if you fucked up all the time and you're high or you coked up or doped up, you need the shades. They went on a Willie Williams show when the can't you see came out, and one of the members, I won't say their name, fell out in the fucking thing. I I I remember I remember, like, of course they puppy was running it, so he's running it with gets gets out to the media. But now I'm doing an untold story. I got that information. So when you leave one person and you think you're going to Hollywood and you start getting, you know, dibbing and dabbing and certain stuff, it don't mean the grass is greener. Don't mean that that's that is your best option. And comma is real, and what goes around comes around. Now, they did the records, the guy filed a lawsuit on Pop Daddy. He was in court, he said two or three years, and puppy had too much money. They they he was he was exhausted, he dropped the lawsuit. Untold stories of up total. So when he dropped the lawsuit, like I said, Diddy put out the music. He didn't one thing I'll give Diddy, he didn't put out that music until that lawsuit was dropped. And then he put out Kenji Seed and all the other all the other music. But the thing I want to tell everybody, they didn't get a dime. They probably got clothes and shit like that, but Toto didn't get money. They were still living in the ghetto. Ghetto. Living in the ghetto now. So only thing, only thing, uh, the flowers I'm gonna give, they make beautiful music. Let me give praise to Toto. They made beautiful music, they changed the culture on how to be classy in RB. I think that that was that's that was a gift that God was gonna give to them. But the curse, that the gift turned into a curse when you cross your manager. When you cross your manager and the person that mentored you, the person that gave you the star, the person that believed in you, believed in all the girls. You get the curse when you cross a good person. That's when you get cursed. That's when you get introduced to drugs and and and people take advantage of you, and you have to do certain rituals to get to certain levels that you never accomplish. I ain't see, I saw you when you see videos, you see total eye. They look alright for the video. But when you understand, when you live the video, when you leave the video shoot, when you leave the tour, where are you going? Back to the hood. After the drugs, after the sex, after all the the shit that these young ladies had to go to through back in the 90s and even in the damn 2000, they did the um the bad boy reunion tour in 2016. It took it took Puppy a long time to get the whole group together. They did that, and you know, I'm gonna play some of the video tonight, but it was kind of rusty up there. If you're not loyal to whoever you with, the God was not, you are not gonna get blessed by God.
